Tadasana

Tadasana, also known as Mountain Pose, is a foundational standing posture in yoga practice. The name comes from the Sanskrit words ‘tada’ meaning mountain and ‘asana’ meaning pose. This pose appears simple but requires focused attention to proper alignment. In Tadasana, practitioners stand with feet together or hip-width apart, grounding through all four corners of the feet. The spine extends upward, shoulders relaxed away from the ears, and arms rest alongside the body with palms facing forward. The gaze is directed forward, and breathing is steady. Tadasana builds awareness of proper posture, strengthens the legs and core, and improves balance. It serves as the starting position for many standing poses and is often used as a reset position between more complex asanas. Regular practice of Tadasana can help improve posture off the mat and create a sense of stability and groundedness in daily life.
