Ajna Chakra

Ajna Chakra (Third-Eye Chakra)

Ajna Chakra, commonly known as the Third-Eye Chakra, is the sixth primary energy center in the yogic chakra system. Located at the center of the forehead between the eyebrows, Ajna translates from Sanskrit as ‘command’ or ‘perception,’ signifying its role in higher consciousness and intuition.

This chakra is associated with the color indigo and is represented by a two-petaled lotus flower, symbolizing the balance of masculine and feminine energies, or ida and pingala nadis. Ajna Chakra governs our intuition, imagination, visualization, and higher wisdom. When balanced, it enhances clarity of thought, spiritual insight, and the ability to trust one’s inner guidance.

In physical terms, the Ajna Chakra corresponds to the pituitary gland, often called the ‘master gland’ of the endocrine system. It relates to the pineal gland as well, which regulates sleep patterns and is connected to melatonin production.

Practices that stimulate and balance the Third-Eye Chakra include meditation with focus on the space between the eyebrows, pranayama techniques like Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing), and asanas that bring attention to the forehead, such as Child’s Pose with the forehead resting on the ground.

When the Ajna Chakra is open and balanced, practitioners often experience enhanced intuition, mental clarity, and a deeper connection to their spiritual path.
